Taylor Swift's long-awaited and highly anticipated Lover album finally dropped Friday at midnight, and it doesn't take long for a more mature Swift to change the tone from 2017's Reputation. Instead of settling scores like she did on songs such as "Look What You Made Me Do," the star is now focused on love. The album kicks off with an upbeat "I Forgot That You Existed," and also features a romantic ode to her British boyfriend in the title track, and a gut-wrenching tribute to her mom's battle with cancer, with help from the Dixie Chicks, in "Soon You'll Get Better." The album still has its breakup moments, but this time an older and wiser Swift takes ownership instead of playing the victim. “I blew things out of proportion / Now you’re blue / Put you in jail for something you didn’t do,” she sings in "Afterglow." The album also has some fun collabs, with an assist from Panic! At the Disco's Brandon Urie on "ME!," as well as co-writing help from St. Vincent on "Cruel Summer," and Jack Antonoff on eight of the album's tracks. Hours before the album dropped, Swift also unveiled the music video for the song "Lover," which stars frequent live collaborator Christian Owens. "The leading man in this video is someone I have performed on stage with for years,” she said during a YouTube Live interview. The singer played it coy, insisting the lyrics to the song were inspired by the song "You Are in Love” off of1989,and not boyfriend Joe Alwyn. But the lyrics suggest otherwise: “I’ve loved you three summers now, honey / But I want them all,” sings Swift, who is rumored to be celebrating her third anniversary with the actor this year.
