'Dogs open MW play with loss to SDSU

FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State volleyball team opened Mountain West play on Thursday night at the Save Mart Center, falling in straight sets to San Diego State (25-17, 25-21, 25-16). The Bulldogs move to 4-8 on the season and 0-1 in conference play.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Bulldogs traded points early and got kills from Addison Haluska and Jenna Legault to keep pace. However, a mid-set surge from the Aztecs put Fresno State in a hole, and San Diego State closed strong to take the opener, 25-17.

Fresno State responded with its best set of the night, leading on four different occasions and forcing seven ties. Legault and Haluska combined for nine kills while the defense posted three blocks in the frame. Despite the effort, the Aztecs pulled away late, 25-21, for a 2-0 lead.

San Diego State carried momentum into the final set, jumping ahead early. The Bulldogs had a brief rally sparked by Legault and Haluska, but the Aztecs stayed efficient on offense to take the set 25-16 and finish the sweep.
