CLOVIS, Calif. - The Fresno State track & field team picked up three more medals on Saturday, including two gold medals, to close out the 2025 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Outdoor Track & Field Championships at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
Fresno State's women finished third with 99 points. The Bulldogs took third at the outdoor championships for the second straight year, matching their best finish in program history.
Fresno State earned 10 total medals in the 2025 event, nine in the women's events and one in the men's. The Bulldogs crowned three MW Champions this weekend, the most in a season since 2018.
New Mexico claimed the women's MW title with 153 points and Colorado State was named the men's champion with 192.5 points.
How it happened
Sophomore Liz Tarczy claimed Fresno State's first medal of the day, defending her high jump title with a career-high jump of 1.83m/6-0. She cleared easily throughout, and as San Jose State's Line Schubert was unsuccessful on her three attempts at 1.78m, Tarczy elected to raise the bar to 1.83m in search of a new career-high while also keeping the title. She missed on her first two attempts, and cleared on her third. Tarczy attempted a height of 1.88m but was unable to clear.
The Bulldogs picked up three points in the women's discus to start off the afternoon with a sixth place finish by Emma Harper. The men picked up a point in the same event with a ninth place showing by Jamarcus Phillips.
In the men's triple jump, sophomore Josh Dunu placed seventh with a personal best jump of 14.47m/47-5.75.
Jewel Ash took gold in the 400m hurdles with a program record 57.63 time, claiming gold. The senior became the first Bulldog to win the event since 2015 and had the fastest time in the event since 2016.
In the men's 400m hurdles, senior Dane Koesterer tied his career-best time with a mark of 53.31 and finished sixth.
Closing out the night, the women's 4x400 relay team of Ash, Miana Giovannini, Janae Heffernan and Itzia Mejia Garcia claimed second place with a time of 3:37.36. It was the fourth-fastest 4x400 relay time in program history.
Notable
Fresno State earned its most gold medals at the outdoor championship since winning three in 2018.
Liz Tarczy earned her second straight high jump title.
With her first title as a freshman last season, she became the first Bulldog to earn conference champion honors in the high jump.
Tarczy is the first Bulldog to go back-to-back in an outdoor event since Jestena Mattson did so in the heptathlon in 2018 and 2019.
Tarczy is just the eighth Bulldog all-time to earn back-to-back titles at the outdoor championships in any event. No Bulldog has ever won three-straight gold medals.
Tarczy's jump of 1.83m/6-0 ties the second-highest jump in program history, and is the highest since 1990.
Tarczy went undefeated in the high jump this outdoor season, winning the event at each meet she competed in.
Jewel Ash claimed Fresno State's first gold medal in the 400m hurdles since Kyra Johnson in 2015.
With a time of 57.63 in the 400m hurdles, Ash set the Fresno State program record, breaking Johnson's record time of 57.85 set in 2016.
Fresno State's women's 4x400 relay team took silver for the second consecutive season.
