Bulldogs sign three more from transfer portal

FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State football announced the signing of cornerback Sammie Hunter, and wide receivers Ezekiel Avit and Luke Jones from the transfer portal on Wednesday.

Avit and Hunter are both east coast natives, and make their way to the west coast to play for Fresno State. Jones comes from the midwest.

Hunter, a transfer from Utah, redshirted as a true freshman in 2024 and comes to the Valley with four years of eligibility remaining. He played at Chandler High School in Arizona, where he was named a three-star recruit by 247Sports. He was ranked as the No. 19 player in Arizona for the Class of 2024. Finished his varsity career with 49 tackles (3.0 TFL, 1.0 sack), six PBU and a fumble recovery.

In addition to defense, he contributed in the return game, running back kickoffs and punts in high school.

Hunter was a dual sport athlete, participating in track & field. He helped Chandler's 4x100 relay team win a state title in 2022 and finish in tie for first place in 2023.

Hunter is a native of Rock Hill, S.C.. He was recruited to come to Fresno State out of high school, but initially chose Utah.

Avit transfers to Fresno State from Maryland where he spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He redshirted as a true freshman in 2023, playing in four games. As a redshirt freshman the following season, he appeared in seven games and had one catch for 13 yards against Indiana. Avit is listed as 6-foot-1 and 195 pounds.

The Potomac, Md. native was the top-ranked wide receiver and 19th overall player in the state of Maryland upon his high school graduation. He was a dual-sport athlete in high school, also playing basketball.

Jones is transferring from Purdue, where he spent the 2023 and 2024 seasons. In his two seasons at Purdue, he appeared in four games all as a true freshman in 2023. He did not record a stat in two seasons as a Boilermaker. Out of high school, Jones was recruited to South Dakota State by current Bulldog offensive coordinator Josh Davis. Jones is a native of Deerfield, Ill.

The trio announced on Wednesday join quarterback transfer Carson Conklin (Sacramento State) as Fresno State's transfer portal additions for 2025.
