Bulldogs down Spartans to close conference play

SAN JOSE, Calif. - The Fresno State women's tennis team concludes conference play with a dominant win over San Jose State on Thursday afternoon at the Spartan Tennis Complex, 4-2.

How it Happened

Fresno State led in all three doubles matches to start the afternoon. All Bulldogs pairs led in five games against the Spartans. Klara Vukicevic and Charlotte Gisclon finished first defeating Fayos/Fantousis, six games to two. Matilde Magrini and Eliza Dunbar clinched the doubles point with a, 6-4, win over Ying Shek/Urchoeguia on court one.

Yinglak Jittakoat got to work quickly, earning the Bulldogs second point of the match. Jittakoat swiftly defeated Urchowguia in straight sets and held her opponent to no games in the second set, 6-2, 6-0.

Spartans were able to tie it up after claiming the next two singles matches on courts one and four. Magrini fell to Ying Shek at the top singles flight, only grabbing two games in the first set. Lopicic dropped her match to Bances on court four. Lopicic was unable to force a third set with only three games won in set two.

Montiel snatched back the Bulldogs lead with a straight set win on court six, 3-2. The freshman defeated Fantousis six games to four in both sets.

Fresno State was on the cusp of the win with two matches left on the court. Pizzoni and Dunbar played into the third set to keep their chances alive. Dunbar sealed the win with the win (6-4) over Fayos on court five. Pizzoni's match was left unfinished, as the junior trailed two games to five on court two.
