Series evens with 6-4 loss for 'Dogs

SAN DIEGO – The Fresno State baseball team dropped game two of the Bulldogs' only series against San Diego State, 6-4, on Saturday night.

With the loss, the 'Dogs stay just below .500 with a 16-18 overall record (9-5 MW), and the Aztecs advance to 11-24 (7-7 MW).

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Aztecs had early control over the game as the first on the board with a four-run first inning, including a home run and a pair of doubles.

Momentum continued for San Diego State in the bottom of the second. The Aztecs led off the inning with a solo home run to left field, the second of the game.

Murf Gray sparked life for the Bulldogs in the top of the third by hitting his second home run of the series and his 25th all-time.

The Aztecs responded with their third home run of the game to score one in the bottom of the fourth.

Fresno State continued to chip away in the seventh. Eddie Saldivar doubled down the left field line, a fair by only inches, and scored Lee Trevino, who had led off the inning with a single.

The Diamond 'Dogs attempted a late rally with two outs in the ninth inning, Gray doubled to center field and drove in Eddie Saldivar. Griffen Sotomayor followed with a single through the left side, allowing Gray to advance to third. Bobby Blandford was down to his last strike when he hit a single to centerfield that scored Gray, but the late scoring was not enough to overcome the Aztecs, and the Bulldogs fell 6-4.

Murf Gray was a triple shy of the cycle and went 3-for-5.

Bryce Armstrong pitched three shutout innings, allowing only two hits.

Despite earning the loss, Aidan Cremarosa has the second-most strikeouts in the conference with 56 total and five against the Aztecs.
