SAN DIEGO – The Fresno State baseball team claimed its fourth Mountain West series win on Sunday with a 10-2 win over San Diego State.
The Diamond 'Dogs remain at the top of the Mountain West standings with a 10-5 record and sit just below .500 overall with a 17-18 record.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Bulldogs got on the board early, courtesy of a pair of RBI doubles from Murf Gray and Griffen Sotomayor, accompanied by an RBI ground out from Bobby Blandford. Fresno State took an early 3-0 lead in the first.
Fresno State more than doubled its lead in the fifth inning. Sky Collins led off the inning with a walk and was scored by a double down the left field line by Owen Faust. Gray followed with his second double of the day to send Faust home. Justin Stransky singled to left field and advanced to third on a fielding error by the Aztec left fielder. Sotomayor followed with a single that scored Stransky, advancing the Bulldogs' lead to 7-0.
The Aztecs avoided being shut out for the second time in the series in the sixth inning, scoring a pair on a two-run homer.
Jett Ruby came in to pinch hit in the seventh and tacked on another run for the Bulldogs, scoring Sotomayor, who had led off the inning with a walk, with a sacrifice fly to left field.
The Bulldogs recorded a pair of insurance runs in the top of the ninth when BJ Rodriguez singled through the right side in his only plate appearance of the game. Lee Trevino and Justin Stransky scored.
The Aztecs could not overcome the deficit and fell 10-2.
NOTES
Justin Stransky extended his hitting streak to 11 straight games, going 2-for-4 today.
Fresno State outscored the Aztecs 21-8 in the teams' only regular schedule series of 2025.
Murf Gray had a .400 average against the Aztecs, with three doubles and two home runs.
