FRESNO, Calif. – The Fresno State baseball team is back for Mountain West action against San Diego State this weekend, beginning on Friday.
Following the weekend, the 'Dogs will head to Cal for a midweek game on Tuesday at 6:05 p.m.
BACK ON TOP
The Bulldogs are back on top of the Mountain West Standings after a sweep over the New Mexico Lobos at home last weekend.
With an 8-4 MW record, the Diamond 'Dogs are the lone leaders in the standings.
Nevada, San Jose State and New Mexico, all teams that the Bulldogs have defeated in series this season, trail behind Fresno State in the second and third place spots.
SKY-HIGH COLLINS
Fresno State Baseball's Sky Collins was tabbed Mountain West Player of the Week for the first time in his career following his performance in the Bulldogs' sweep over New Mexico.
Collins had a big week for the Bulldogs, hitting .500 in four games for the 'Dogs.
He went 8-for-16 on the week and 7-for-13 in the Bulldogs sweep over New Mexico, batting .538.
In Sunday's win over New Mexico to clinch the series sweep, Collins hit his third career home run.
Against the Lobos, Collins had a .846 slugging percentage and .538 on-base percentage, totaling four runs and seven RBIs.
He also successfully snagged two bases in two attempts this week.
Collins had a perfect fielding percentage with 7 putouts as the starting center fielder.
WE ARE THE CHAMPIONS, MY FRIEND
The Fresno State baseball team claimed its second Mountain West title and first since 2019 in their last time playing at Tony Gwynn Stadium in San Diego, Calif., on May 5, 2024.
The win marked the team's 10th conference tournament title overall.
After entering the 2024 tournament with a 6-6 record in Mountain West elimination games, the Bulldogs won four straight this weekend.
Fresno State's pitching staff recorded a tournament-record 67 strikeouts, 18 more than the previous record of 49 set by San Diego State in 2001.
Murf Gray was named tournament MVP and to the All-Tournament Team alongside Jaykob Acosta, Justin Stransky, Noah Beal, Tommy Hopfe and Jake Riding.
