FRESNO, Calif. - Fresno State women's basketball dominates over Utah State for their third straight conference win on Wednesday night at the Save Mart Center, 74-54.
The mid-week match up makes Mia Jacobs' eighth 20+ point game this season, finishing on 26 for the night. Mariah Elohim and Saga Ukkonen found themselves in double-digits again tonight with 14 and 10, respectively.
How it Happened
It was a 6-2 run to start off back-to-back three-pointers off of Mia Jacobs and Mariah Elohim. Jacobs took it to the basket for another two points on a layup. Aggies' caught up to trail by two with 4:46 to go, 8-6. It took eight points in only less than a minute for Utah State to tie it up, 14-14, after Stubbs threw in a layup off a steal. Ukkonen drained a three-pointer on the final shot clock of the period for a three-point lead after ten, 17-14. Bulldogs' turned it over seven times, handing the Aggies eight points.
Fresno State outscored Utah State 20-9 in the second allowing only two Aggies an opportunity to score from the field. It was a a short 4-0 run for the 'Dogs on the first double digit lead of the night. Danae Powell made it in from the paint before Holly Griffiths drew a foul for a 2-2 trip to the charity line. Kylee Fox let the ball go at the right moment to grab her first points of the night at the buzzer on a shot from downtown. Bulldogs' closed the first half on a 14 point advantage, 37-23.
Bulldogs largest lead of the night came near the end of the third on a 24 point lead over the Aggies. Jacobs played on a dominant 9-0 solo run with two layups, a 2-2 trip to the foul line and a deep three. An Aggies 8-6 run opened the second half and Utah's Livingston and Latta dropped in a set of back-to-back three's.
Utah State outscored Fresno 14-12 in the final ten to play. Malaya LeSueur made it to the basket two minutes shy after subbing in on a second chance layup, her first of the night. A 6-4 run finalizes the game with the Bulldogs finishing on a 20 point lead over the Aggies.
