Bulldogs run past Roadrunners on Saturday

FRESNO, Calif.- Mia Jacobs grasps her eighth double-double of the season to give Fresno State their fifth consecutive win at home this season. Fresno State heavily led CSU Bakersfield at the Save Mart Center on Saturday afternoon, 65-46.

Mia Jacobs once again led the pack with 17 points and 10 rebounds against the Roadrunners. Mariah Elohim and Saga Ukkonen with their sixth and fourth double-digit games, respectively.

How it happened

Matching pace with one another, Bulldogs and Roadrunners got off on even footing. Maria Konstantinidou on for the first basket of the game with a second chance layup. Bakersfield looked in for the extra push when tied with the 'Dogs, 5-5. Konstantinidou shut down the opportunity off a second chance jumper, giving the Bulldogs an 8-0 run. Despite a 9-8 run for Fresno State in the final two minutes Fresno State held a seven point lead after ten, 22-15.

Fresno State never saw less than a double-digit lead after Saga Ukkonen sank in a three-pointer off an opponent turnover, to close a 5-0 opening run. Double-figure numbers found Jacobs after second chance three. Bulldogs' outscored the Roadrunners, 18-9, shooting 18 percent better in the second quarter.

Ukkonen let it free for one more shot beyond the arc in the final five seconds for a 16 point lead going into the half, 40-24.

At the half Fresno State shot 40% (15-of-37) from the field, 33% (6-of-18) from the three and 100% from the charity line (4-of-4). Bulldogs' saw 16 points from turnovers to Bakersfield's two.

Fresno State breezed by in the final twenty minutes of play. Bulldogs scoped on seven of Bakersfield's turnovers for 13 points in the second half.

Mariah Elohim held it down coming out of the first half logging eight points for the 'Dogs. Fresno State continued to hold their 20-point lead after a 6-0 run, 55-34 with ten to play.

Another quick 5-0 run to get things started in the final quarter with Powell and Watkins. Watkins connected for her first three of the night. A six minute scoring drought for the Bulldogs handed the Roadrunners eight points, not enough to crack the 18 point lead. Jacobs got the 'Dogs back on the board layup. Last on the ball for Fresno was Holly Griffiths granting the 'Dogs with the tenth three-pointer of the game.
