’Dogs return home for midweek matchup against Mustangs

BULLDOG BONES:

Fresno State is coming off of a series sweep over UNLV that placed them at the top of the Mountain West standings last weekend.

Infielder Murf Gray was named Mountain West Freshman of the week after his standout performance in the series sweep over UNLV.

Tommy Hopfe is tied for third in the nation in season saves.

Tuesday's starting pitcher earned his second win of the season against the Rebels and now holds A 2-2 overall record.

The Bulldogs are sitting at 9-4 at home this season and have advanced to 13-9 overall.

Fresno State is looking for its 100th all-time win over Cal Poly with three matchups between the Diamond 'Dogs and Mustangs scheduled this season.

The Fresno State baseball team is back at home to face the Cal Poly Mustangs in a midweek matchup on Tuesday afternoon at Pete Beiden Field at Bob Bennett Stadium.

The 'Dogs wrapped up last week with a Mountain West conference series sweep over the Rebels of UNLV, extending their season record to 13-9.

Projected starter Trevor Garcia is 2-2 on the season with one save and a 3.63 season ERA. He has thrown 20 strikeouts in 17.1 innings pitched in 2023.

The Bulldogs have a team batting average of .249 and are led at the plate by Bobby Blandford who has a .309 season average and a .500 slugging percentage.

A LOOK AT THE MUSTANGS:

The Cal Poly Mustangs currently sit at 6-14 on the season with a 0-2 record on the road. They spent the past weekend battling UC Irvine, where they picked up two wins against the Anteaters.

Projected Mustang Starter Freddy Rodriguez has a 5.24 ERA on the season over seven innings pitched in six appearances. He has thrown 5 strikeouts and allowed nine hits and six runs in 2023.

Overall, the Mustangs have a .253 batting average and .353 slugging percentage. They are led by Jake Steels who carries a .346 season average and a .414 slugging percentage.
