The State Water Resources Control Board says it has received several calls from people in Fresno, and through the Central Valley, reporting suspicious door-to-door salesmen. Several people say they have received visits from scammers posing as water agency employees, trying to sell filtration systems. The State Water Board says that it never sends employees out to sell filtration systems to homeowners. It will also never ask an employee to come by your home to inspect your water system.
If anyone asks to come into your home, you should ask for their identification or a callback number. If you feel safe, try and snap a picture of the person to show authorities or the State Water Board later on. If they handed over their ID to you, take a picture of that as well. The Central Valley Water Board says it has also received a report about a man calling a homeowner and identifying himself as an employee with the board’s Division of Drinking Water. The board says that same man also visited another home and asked to come inside for an inspection. Anyone who gets a visit from one of these scammers is asked to the contact the State Board’s Fresno office at 559-447-3398. You can also email pictures of the person and their identification if provided to tricia.wathen@waterboards.ca.gov or DWPDist12@waterboards.ca.gov
