12 Halloween Candy & Cocktail Pairings That Will Blow Your Mind

The arrival of October elicits an array of emotions – some celebrate the arrival of the pumpkin-spiced everything, and pumpkin-haters enjoy figs, brussels, and other fall produce.

Anyone with kids also happens to be a candy connoisseur, like it or not.  To celebrate the season, we’ve developed a list cocktail pairings to help you get through the piles of Halloween candy you’ll be stashing away (shhhh… we won’t tell).

And the best part? You can find all these ingredients in the Shipt app if you are in an area that supports delivery from ABC Fine Wine & Spirits. Because when Shipt gets the wine, beer, and spirits, you have more time to enjoy special moments with friends and family.

**York Peppermint Patty + White Russian

Coffee and mint have always been friends, and this pairing is no exception. The richness of the cream and the strong coffee flavor of the Kahlua hold their own against the cool mint delivered by the York Peppermint Patty. This pairing delivers a rich mouthfeel and lasting finish that will stick with you all Halloween night!

Ingredients:

2 oz vodka2 oz Kahlua2 oz cream

Directions:

Fill an old-fashioned glass with ice. Pour in the vodka and Kahlua. Top with a layer of cream.

**Snickers & Old-Fashioned

What’s more old-fashioned than a Snickers for Halloween? Not much. In this pairing, an American classic meets another American classic combining the caramel nuttiness of the Snickers with the sweet corn and oak from the bourbon. Savory and strong, this pairing is sure to please.

Ingredients:

1 to 2 teaspoons simple syrup (we like simple syrup made with brown sugar)3 dashes bitters (Angostura is great and readily available)2 ounces mid-range bourbon or rye whiskeyOne 2-inch piece of orange peel, optional1 to 2 maraschino cherries, optional

Directions:

Place simple syrup, bitters and the whiskey in an old-fashioned glass, stir well, then add 1 to 2 large ice cubes. Stir to chill, then garnish with an orange peel and a cherry.

**M&Ms and Cherry Champagne Cocktail

Three words: chocolate covered cherry. This drink brings together the familiar subtle chocolate flavors from the M&Ms with a surprisingly bright cherry flavor from the Luxardo and champagne. If you’re a fan of cherry cordials, you’ll love this pairing.

Ingredients:

½ oz Luxardo4 dashes bitterschampagneLuxardo cherries garnish

Directions:

Mix Luxardo and bitters in the bottom of a champagne glass. Float champagne over the top and add a cherry.

**Mint Lime Refresher and Starburst

Sour and sweet meets sweet and sour. The lime and mint combine with the simple syrup to create a combination that is perfect for you sour fans out there. The slightly sweet and sour taffy texture of the Starburst stays with you after you’re done and blends perfectly with each sip of this cocktail.

Ingredients:

2 lime quartersIce2 oz vodka1 oz simple syrupLime La Croix1 sprig mint

Directions:

Muddle the mint with the 2 limes in a tall glass. Fill with ice. Add the simple syrup and vodka and stir. Fill the rest of the glass with lime La Croix and enjoy!

**Kit Kat and Orange Well Rested

Give me a break: tequila and Kit Kats? Well, believe it. This drink is sweet but packs a punch and is offset nicely by the starchy chocolate covered wafers of the Kit Kat. Like two dance partners that both like to lead but are never out of step, this drink is sure to surprise and delight.

Ingredients:

2 parts reposado tequila1 part orange liqueur2 dashes aromatic bitters1/4 oz lemon juice

Directions:

Mix all ingredients in an old-fashioned glass and stir. Top with club soda and garnish with a lemon wedge.

**Three Musketeers and Grasshopper

Nougat. That sweet marshmallow-y center of a Three Musketeers that divides us like nothing else. Some people love it, and some… not so much. Enter the Grasshopper. This drink tastes like melted mint chip ice cream in a glass. That rich deep mint flavor allows the Three Musketeers to play the role it was meant to, a light and fluffy offset to a strong counterpart. Try them together and you’ll see two opposing forces acting in harmony.

Ingredients:

1 oz crème de menthe1 oz crème de cacao½ oz cream

Directions:

Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker and shake until chilled. Strain into a martini glass.

**Twizzlers & Negroni

The Negroni is having its moment in the sun, and why not? The slightly sweet and bitter Italian drink is the perfect way to whet your appetite. The bright red color and sweet bitter flavor reminded us of one of our Halloween favorites, Twizzlers. When you eat them together you get this wave of sweet to bitter and back to sweet but come on, let’s be serious… we all know you’re going to use the Twizzlers as a straw.

Ingredients:

1.5 oz gin1.5 oz Campari1.5 oz sweet vermouth

Directions:

Shake the ingredients together with ice and strain into a cocktail glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

**Skittles & Lillet Champagne Cocktail

Lillet Blanc is a delightful wine-based spirit that comes from Semillon grapes. When added as a champagne float it brings a sweet and floral note to the drink. The bright citrus flavors of Skittles is just what this drink needs to bring balance and a bit of playfulness. Drop a couple Skittles into the glass and watch as the drink changes colors.

Ingredients:

Champagne½ oz Lillet Blanc

Directions:

Put ½ oz Lillet in a champagne flute and top with champagne. Drop a skittle into the glass.

**Crunch Bar & Cinnamon Apple Ale

One of the hot beer-cocktails right now, the Cinnamon Apple is a must try if you haven’t yet. It is sweet with just a touch of cinnamon and tastes like fall in a bottle. The starchy crunch of the Crunch bar is a nice offset to the cinnamon sweetness of the drink and together they balance for an easy party favorite.

Crunch Bar and Cinnamon Apple Ale

1 oz Fireball1 Red’s Apple Ale

Directions:

Drink the neck out of a red’s apple ale and pour in the fireball shot.

**Malt Balls and PB Scotchtini

Malt is similar to nougat in that people either love it or they hate it. This pairing takes the nutty starchiness of the malt and brings balance through the smooth peanut butter and the smoke of the scotch. The Kahlua works to emulsify the peanut butter and scotch while the Luxardo balances the smoky nuttiness with a clean undertone.

Ingredients:

1.5 oz scotch½ oz Luxardo½ oz Kahlua1/2 tablespoon peanut butter

Directions:

Shake all ingredients together with ice. Strain through a mesh strainer into a martini glass and serve.

**Pimm’s Cup and Sour Patch Kids

Pimm’s is one of those liqueurs that makes people go “what is in this drink!?” A gin with Indian spice flavors, Pimm’s #1 is mixed with cucumber and ginger beer to create the classic Pimm’s Cup cocktail. The spicy-sweet drink balances perfectly with the intense sour of the Sour Patch Kids to create a pairing that was easily a staff favorite.

Ingredients:

About 1 cup ice cubes1/4 cup (2 ounces) Pimm’s No. 16 tablespoons (3 ounces) ginger beer or ginger ale1 cucumber slice1 sprig fresh mint (5 to 6 leaves)

Directions:

**Baby Ruth & Zaya Rum & Coke

Not all rum and Coke’s are the same, and Zaya Rum has this subtle spice and wood flavors from the barrel aging that balance perfectly with the caramel and peanuts of the Baby Ruth. Try this pairing for yourself and you’ll be asking “Hey, who ate my Baby Ruth and why is my glass empty?” before you know it.

Ingredients:
