Ted Cruz edged Jimmy Kimmel for an 11-9 victory in their one-on-one charity basketball match this weekend. And when we say "charity," we mean it is charitable to even describe what transpired at Texas Southern University's Health and Physical Education Arena as "basketball." TIME notes that the game was supposed to end at 15 points, but both sides agreed to call it quits after two hours and only 20 points between them. Meanwhile, The Houston Chronicle called the two-hour competition "a slow-motion car-crash of half-court basketball" while Kimmel later said about the contest, "We apologize to the game of basketball." Their Blobfish Basketball Classic came about after Kimmel said on his show that Cruz looked like a "blobfish" in a courtside photo at a Houston Rockets game, prompting Cruz to challenge him to a little one-on-one. The event benefitted Texas Children's Hospital and the educational nonprofit Generation One. Parts of the game will be shown on Monday's Jimmy Kimmel Live.
