Michael Jackson's Sister Janet Commemorates 10th Anniversary of His Death

On the 10th anniversary of Michael Jackson's death, the pop icon's estate and fans are commemorating the somber event. “Ten years ago today, the world lost a gifted artist and extraordinary humanitarian,” the Jackson estate wrote in a statement published by The Associated Press. “A decade later, Michael Jackson is still with us, his influence embedded in dance, fashion, art and music of the moment. He is more important than ever.” The estate went on to suggest people honor his "legacy of philanthropic work" by trying to "make a difference in their community." The Associated Press notes that fans are also planning vigils at various locations connected to Jackson, including his Hollywood Walk of Fame star, last Los Angeles home and the Forest Lawn Memorial Park, where he's buried.

In an interview withThe Sunday Times, Janet Jackson also made a rare comment about her brother, noting that she thinks his legacy "will continue" and that she appreciates seeing how fans still relate to his songs and image. "I love it when I see kids emulating him, when adults still listen to his music," she says. "It just lets you know the impact that my family has had on the world. I hope I'm not sounding arrogant in any way -- I'm just stating what is. It's really all God's doing, and I'm just thankful for that." Janet, however, did not comment on the sexual abuse allegations that recently resurfaced viaLeaving Neverland.
