China Lands Spacecraft On The Dark Side Of The Moon

On Thursday, China became the first country to land a spacecraft on the so-called dark side of the moon. As the AP notes, the U.S., China and the former Soviet Union have all landed spacecraft on the near side of the moon, but China's Chang'e 4 craft is the first to land on the far--or dark--side. “On the whole, China’s space technology still lags behind the West, but with the landing on the far side of the moon, we have raced to the front,” said Hou Xiyun, a professor at Nanjing University’s school of astronomy and space science. “There’s no doubt that our nation will go farther and farther.”
