Toledo's Famous Christmas Weed Gets Decorated And Surrounded By Donations

  • A few years ago, motorists in Toledo, Ohio, were wondering what to do about a four-foot-high weed on the side of a busy road. They began covering it in tinsel and other Christmas decor, and a tradition was started in earnest. The AP reports that in thee past few days, this year's weed has been covered in lights, candy canes and glass ornaments, and has been surrounded by donations of canned good, blankets, clothes, and wrapped gifts. “It’s a true Christmas story,” said Jimmy Izbinski, who joined the fun this week by putting on a Santa Claus suit and waving to motorists passing by. “With love, a weed can be a beautiful thing.”
