Actor Verne Troyer, best known for his portrayal of Mini-Me in the Austin Powers film franchise, has died. He was 49. TMZ reports that the actor passed away on Saturday after being taken off life support by his family. "Verne was an extremely caring individual. He wanted to make everyone smile, be happy, and laugh," a statement posted to Troyer's social media accounts over the weekend reads. "Anybody in need, he would help to any extent possible. Verne hoped he made a positive change with the platform he had and worked towards spreading that message every day." Troyer had been in the hospital since earlier this month, when he was treated for possible alcohol poisoning. He had struggled with alcoholism for years and had been to rehab many times. During his most recent struggle, Troyer “was baptized while surrounded by his family." Born with the genetic disorder known as achondroplasia dwarfism, Troyer grew up on a farm in Michigan. He began his Hollywood career in 1994 as a stunt double for Baby Bink in the film Baby's Day Out. He also appeared on reality shows including Celebrity Juice, Celebrity Wife Swap and The Surreal Life.
