Sam Smith Goes Shirtless In Inspiring Instagram Post On Body Acceptance

Sam Smith is learning to love the skin he's in.

The singer had a confident revelation this Tuesday (February 11), making a rare shirtless appearance on Instagram to share his struggles with body image.

“In the past if I have ever done a photo shoot with so much as a t-shirt on, I have starved myself for weeks in advance and then picked and prodded at every picture and then normally taken the picture down,” Smith started his post.

“Yesterday I decided to fight the f**k back. Reclaim my body and stop trying to change this chest and these hips and these curves that my mum and dad made and love so unconditionally," he continued, adding that, "Some may take this as narcissistic and showing off but if you knew how much courage it took to do this and the body trauma I have experienced as a kid you wouldn’t think those things.”

"I’ll always be at war with this bloody mirror but this shoot and this day was a step in the right f**king direction," the "Dancing With a Stranger" star continued, expressing his gratitude to Ryan Pfluger, who shot the powerful picture.

The Grammy winner has always been transparent about his weight and body struggles, and detailed his issue with "emotional eating" and being teased as a child in interviews.

In 2015, Smith decided to turn his life around. The musician lost nearly 50 pounds with the help of nutritional therapist Amelia Freer's book Eat. Nourish. Glow, which he said, "helped me lose over a stone in two weeks and has completely transformed my relationship with food."
