Brad Pitt made headlines over the weekend after he was spotted attending Jennifer Aniston's 50th birthday bash. It turns out Brad's presence at his ex-wife's party shouldn't be too surprising, though, because they've reportedly been friends since reconnecting three years ago.
According to a source who spoke to Us Weekly, Brad and Jen reconnected following the death Jen's mom Nancy Dow. “Brad contacted Jen after her mom died, and she was touched that he knew what a difficult time it was,” the source explained. Since that time, both actors have gone through difficult breakups. Brad split from Angelina Jolie, his wife of 12 years and the woman he left Jen for, back in September 2016, while Jen announced she and Justin Theroux were divorcing in January 2017. They've reportedly supported each other through those tough times, with Jen even volunteering to be a character witness in his custody battle with Angelina.
Brad and Jen are aware of the attention that comes with their relationship. (Throwback to 2005 when everybody had *very* strong opinions about the Brad-Jen-Angelina drama!) “Guests were surprised to see him there and were making a big deal of it,” a source told Us Weekly. “Brad seemed very hesitant [at first] — all eyes were on him,” another eyewitness said of Brad arriving at Jen's party. “Brad wanted to support and celebrate Jen by attending her birthday party,”As for the birthday girl? “It didn’t seem like that big of a deal to Jen. She was happy he was there, but that was it. She was busy making the rounds and excited to see so many people near and dear to her,” the source said. Jen did follow up with her ex the next day, though, “to thank him for coming. She wanted to know if he had a good time.”It seems like these two have really managed to move past their issues and build a strong friendship. "Brad wishes he'd handled the end of their marriage in a more thoughtful manner. He asked for Jen's forgiveness a long time ago, and she gave it," another source said.
