Kentucky Derby champ California Chrome cruised to a speedy victory in the Preakness Stakes on Saturday, setting up what could be horse racing's first Triple Crown since 1978. But a breathing-strip ban might keep Chrome out of the Belmont Stakes on June 7, where the Triple Crown will be decided. New York's horse racing board has typically disallowed the use of nasal strips in the past, and Chrome has been wearing them in order to open up his breathing passage during races. "If a request to use nasal strips is made, the decision on whether to permit them or not will be fully evaluated and determined by the stewards,'' Gaming Commission spokesman Lee Park said Sunday.
